A relationship with friends can be called as a social relationship. For example guys hang out with friends, watch movies, play games, go to clubs or shopping etc. You can say anything in front of your friends and you can wear any type of clothes.

Professional relationship is more on a mature level. For example, you would be with your boss, professor, teacher, manager, co-worker. You have to act classy and well-mannered in front of them. You won't find any joke as funny as it would be with your friends because you have to behave like a professional there.
