In olden days when there were no clocks invented then people used to calculate time with the help of position of the sun and stars in the night sky, hour glasses. The Ancient Egyptians divided the day into two 12-hour periods, and used large obelisks to track the movement of the Sun. Length of shadows was also used to analyze the time i.e. morning time shadows are larger, at noon shadow is smaller and again in evening shadow is larger. Also, sun rising and setting were used for time analyzing.
