We can tell the life of a tree by counting the rings. It is the natural way to tell the life of a tree. The outer layer of tree is to protect th tree from any harm in its growth. The inner part contains a "phloem" through which water is passed to leaves and fruit. Every year the tree grows outward and upward. After completing one year tree makes one ring. For eg. if you cut the tree after 20 years then you will 20 rings in the tree.
