Yes, it is true that Greece Parliament has failed to elect a President leading to General Elections in 25 January 2015 as the voting was held on 29 December 2014. In the crucial third and final round of voting the former European Commissioner Stavros Dimas, nominee of the New Democracy party of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, fell short of the 180 votes needed to become the President. Consequently, the Parliament was dissolved and he only managed to get 168 votes out of 300 seats whereas 132 members abstained from voting. As the he impact of political uncertainty was clearly visible in the fall of main Athens stock market index by as much as 11 percent. The main banking, stock index also fell over 11 percent before recovering.
