    JPG appears far less frequently in the registry than JPEG does although this does not imply anything about which is better for the purpose.

    No, there is no difference between JPG and JPEG. Both are same and often used in place of each other. JPEG ( Joint Photographic Experts Group) or JPG ( Joint Photographic Group). Both are the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices.
