I have a .22 lr marlin glenfield semi. I was reading that because it hold 18 rounds in a tube its illegal in California.?

Tube fed 22 rifles are exempt from the limitation of ten round, even in California SSR.

TRue but the feeding tube can be blocked off so it will not hold any more than 15 rounds or ten any gun smith can do that for you. They pull the spring unit out and put a dow rod in the spring unit to shorten the over all tube.

Tube-type ( fixed ) magazines are exempt.

Their concern in California, with regard to magazine capacity has more to do with more powerful weapons (specifically assault rifles). This rule does not apply to .22 rimfires.
