Red blood cells play a very vital role of delivering oxygen to the body's tissues. First, oxygen from the lungs binds to the iron-rich molecule hemoglobin. Then it released by the circulatory system throughout the whole body. The amount of oxygen which reaches your body's tissues is dependent on the concentration of red blood cells in your blood stream. Red blood cell count test tells the number of red blood cells you have in your blood. For males its range is 4.32 to 5.72 million cells per microlitre of blood and 3.9 to 5.03 million cells per microlitre of blood for females.
