Geographically, Mexico can be divided into many distinct regions. The Baja California peninsula, which is the fourth longest in the world is located on the western border of Mexico. Baja is the home which separates 23 mountain ranges and several rivers. The central plateau, which is situated to the north is another major Mexican landforms, it is bordered to the east and west by two large mountain ranges which are the Sierra Madre Occidental and Oriental. The land between these mountains is known as Gulf Coast plain.
