The Department of Industrial Relations put the overtime rules in California. According to them if a person works over 40 hours a week or 8hours a day then he/she recieves one and one-half times then their regular salary. This provision is for all the employees who are 18 or above. Minors who are below 18 years and can't attend the schools are also the part of this provision. Every employee has to follow the guidelines.
