    Precursors to Chess originated in India during the Gupta Empire. However, Chess was introduced to Persia from India. Whereas In Persia around 600 the name became Chatrang which subsequently evolved to Shatranj due to Arab Muslims' lack of CH and NG native sound and the rules were developed further. Chaturanga is the ancient Indian name for chess. Indian chess is the name given to the version of the game as played in India in the 18th and 19th centuries.
