What is the difference between Compiler and Interpreter?

Both the compiler and the interpreter are used to convert the high level programming language into computer understandable form. But the only difference between the two are interpreter translates the program line by line and shows the error it makes easier for the programmer to debug the code. But it takes more time than Compilation. On the other hand Compilation is the process of code that compiles the entire code and list all the error on the screen. You have to rectify the error and recompile the program to get the machine language code.
