The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a formatted text string which is used by web browsers to identify a resource on the internet. It was standardized by "Tim Berners-Lee" and the URI group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in the year 1994. This string can be divided into three major parts, i.e. network protocol, host name and resource location.
