The MPEG-1 is an audio coding algorithm for lossy compression of video and audio. It was developed by Fraunhofer Society and released in the year 1993. This algorithm was designed to compress VHS-quality videos and CD audios into 1.5 Mbit/s without losing much quality. This technology was later in the year 1994 extended to MPEG-2 and its audio encoding format is known as MP3.
