"Praveen Thipsay" is the first Indian to win the Commonwealth Chess Championship. He won this championship in the 1985 in London. It is a chess championship between the players of all Commonwealth countries and was first organized in the year 1949 in New Zealand. Praveen Thipsay is an Indian Chess Grandmaster who won 7 Indian Chess Championship and seven Chess Olympiads in his career.
