Depending on the breeds of the chicken, eggs can be white or brown. It is genetic. The breed of White Leghorn generally lays most of white eggs. The brown eggs are found in Rhode Island Red, the new Hampshire and Plymouth Rock.

Hens who lay brown eggs are little bigger in size and should be cared. White eggs are generally healthier than brown eggs. There are blue and speckled eggs also which you can't find in stores. The Aracuna breed lay these type of eggs.
