    World's smallest Goanna lizard species was discovered in Australia on December 30, 2014. The Goanna lizard weighs barely 16 grams. The Scientific name of the new Goanna lizard species is Varanus sparnus. This single genus has 77 species, with the new species the 78th one. The species were discovered by consultants Roy Teale and Greg Harold from Biota Environmental Sciences.
