Still getting 401k statements up through 12/2018?

My husband cashed out his 401k about two years ago, right before leaving a company. We have continued to get 401k statements. Today he called CUNA (where the statements are from) and was told that after this past quarter the company took all the money out and moved it to another company, but couldn t tell us who. We called the plan admin from the old company to find out why we are still receiving statements and she told us (quickly, I know she didn t check) that we cashed it out and there was no money in it, so she was no help. Any idea where to go from here? There must be money in whatever plan they moved it to or I wouldn t have a statement from 12/31/2018, right? Any help would be appreciated. Update: Yes, there is a balance on the statement, of over $3000. Obviously I wouldn't be asking if the balance was zero.

FWIW, I cashed out a 401K and 2 days later, the account went up from $0 because of a dividend. I didn't notice it for a while because 401Ks don't issue statements.

"I wouldn t have a statement from 12/31/2018, right?" No. I have received $0 401K statements & communications after I have left employers. One came about 7 years after I left. Did you read the statements? How much money was listed on it?

Does the statement show a balance, or zero?

Trivial One

Ask the former employer where they transferred the 401(k) to and then contact the new administrator. They should be able to answer your questions about whether an account exists, and if so, how much money is in there and if your husband can access it. If he can access it, I recommend rolling it over to an IRA where you know where it is and have control over it going forward.

Wrong. Getting a statement does not mean that there is any money. If he took out all the money, so there was no money to move, then there wouldn't be any money of his in the plan to which they moved "all the money".

It sounds like you withdrew all of the money but you failed to close the account.

Sorry but stop thinking there is anything more there that you can get your hands on he cashed it out end of story no matter what statements you are still getting.
