Someone backed up into me. I took pictures of the damage to both cars but not the position of the cars. Called insurance. Am I screwed?

If you meant to ask if you *HAVE* been screwed, I don't understand how you think we would know that. That is extremely personal, don't you agree?

Whenever you have an accident and report it to your insurance company, they go through a procedure. They will get statements from (both) drivers on (how) the accident happened, thus the fact you have no photos of where the cars were makes no difference. Now, where-ever each vehicle is hit, should match up to (how) the accident happened. Now, most insurance will have either both or one of you to provide an estimate of the damages and most body shops will always provide photos of the damages. Now when this person backed into you, was it in a parking lot or at a stop light? If, at a stop light, then that is hard to prove that they backed into you vs you rear ending them. Just let your insurance handle this.

Maybe you are, maybe you're not. You didn't really provide any useful details. It's nice that you took pictures of the damage, but not if that's all you did. Did you get the other vehicle's information? Driver's name? Their insurance info? Does the other guy's story match yours, or is he/she/it insisting that you rear-ended them? Are there any independent witnesses? Dash cam footage? Screwed or unscrewed isn't a matter of what really happened, it's a matter of those little details.

Is the other motorist known? If so, your insurer will pursue the matter to determine fault. That's their job!

Inadequate evidence is better than none. Your prior history will influence outcome,

You did what your were suppose to do. Don't forget to file an accident report. Some states require it

No. You can make the vehicle positions clear in the diagram you’re usually asked to draw on your claim form.
