The most common sea turtle is the loggerhead. Its range extends across most of the world; but declines in their population due to pollution, shrimp trawling, and development in their nesting areas have kept them on the threatened species list. The most endangered sea turtle is the Kemp's ridley. This species is in trouble because their eggs were over-harvested for many years. Although their nesting grounds are now protected and many commercial fishing fleets are using excluder devices to keep the turtles from getting caught in their nets, the Kemp's ridleys have not been able to rebound.
