Is chess a measure of intelligence?
No. It's just board game. No different than 'Snake and Ladders'.

A good question and the answer is probably not. It's about observation. When I play against my computer I can beat it on a good day, but if my mind is distracted by bills, family matters and work it thrashes me...mainly because I never paid enough attention as to what the computer was up to. The computer has nothing else to think about except checkmate based on its programming by a chess master, it's like a child and needs to be taught the simplist tasks that humans do automatically. One example is to pick up a glass when connected to a robotic arm. It's painful to watch.
