Will 8-T pins fit a 12-T fluorescent tomestone socket?

Yes! Just change the ballast! (Sometimes it's cheaper to change the fixture)

T8 and T12 pins are the same distance apart. You run into issues with the ballast. Ballasts designed for T12 bulbs will burn out T8 bulbs faster and ballasts designed for T8 bulbs will burn out faster when you use T12 bulbs.

Both use the same "G13" 1/2" spaced bi-pin base on the lamp. I have seen a tombstone fixture socket that was too short to fit a T12 lamp. Just FYI, the 8 or 12 following the T is lamp diameter in 1/8ths of a inch.

As far as safety is concerned, you can exchange them. If you place T12 tubes in a fixture with a T8 ballast, you will wear out the ballast and have to replace it. If you place T8 tubes in a fixture with a T12 ballast, then the tubes will have a shorter life due to a higher current through the tube.

If the T12 had medium bipin ends, and the T8 is listed as medium bipin, then they should match. You'll want to switch out the ballasts for best performance.

No T8 lamps will not fin in T12 sockets.
