Only allow the burd out of the cage when you have time to give your full attention to supervising it. So that means, not watching TV, playing with your phone, texting, console gaming. The entire time should be devoted to you getting to know the bird, and it getting to know you and its surroundings. Btw, that's each and every time it's out of the cage, otherwise, take it back and go to a toy store to get a plush pet to sit in your bed like a pillow.

After it comes to you in the cage and you can rub it's head lightly. Open the cage and put your wrist out and say step up. Move slowly or you'll scare the bird and get bit.
