Is it true I cannot ship a used jacket from Mexico to the US?

I left my favorite jacket in Mexico while visiting family. They told my sister at the FedEx office that the package with my jacket would be stopped by customs. Is that true? Why?

Stopped by customs, most likely it will be but that will not stop it from being shipped. Just don't expect it to be here quickly.
