Probably depends on how great this job is and how highly skilled I am. If I can easily find another equally good job I might consider resigning. But if this is a chance of lifetime type situation I'd eat the money in the furtherance of my career.

Unclear. You planned the trip. Then got a new job. You told the new job trip was planned when the hired you (4 months ag) and they agreed to the time off? Then speak to your boss again and then their boss if necessary.
