New tattoo burning?

I got a tattoo 2 days ago and it burns like hell. I was told the feeling of a bad sunburn is normal. But it burns when I put aquaphor on it and it burns if I put lubriderm on it. The only time it doesn t burn is if there is nothing on it. And cool water feels amazing on it. After a while of having nothing on it, it gets dry and starts to burn again but not like it does with aquaphor or lotion. Is there anything else I can use that I can buy right away at a drug store or other store? This is driving me insane. I ve been taking very good care of it, it just hasn t been pleasant. It is a decent sized tattoo on my forearm.

Give it another day or so and it will calm down. It's completely normal. Your tattoo is technically an open wound right now. Remember scraping your knee or elbow? That burning sensation that would come a few hours later? Same concept. If you put your hand over your tattoo, you'll feel heat coming off...weird, I know. You just have to deal with it, I'm afraid. I would never risk putting anything else on my new ink except for lotion and ointment. And boy of boy, just wait for the itching...that will be fun.
