If Management Is Cutting Your Hours What Does It Mean?

My freind has noticed that his weekly hours is going down. He's 15 and works at a fast food joint. He used to work 15 hour weeks, but recently, management has started slowly reducing his hours weekly. Now hes working 7 hour weeks even though he is willing to work 15 hour weeks, and hasn't asked for reduced hours. What does this mean or indicate?

It means management is cutting your hours. Lol. Why don't you dingbats ask management??? Good grief!!!

It could mean that business is slowing and that the restaurant simply doesn't need as many workers as before. It could also mean that management has decided that there are better employees who are more deserving of the hours. "Your friend" should consider asking management why his hours are being cut, as they are the only ones who will know for certain what is going on.

It means that there is not enough work for him to do. Obvious to most of us.

It could simply be a slow time of year for the restaurant as it is in many other retail type businesses after Christmas. If he really wants to know, he should ask the person in charge of making the schedule.

If many other people's hours are also cut, likely means they're just not real busy. if it's just him, he should ask his manager.

Business is slow. 15 yrs old can only work certain hours and do certain tasks, so they would be the ones to lose hours first. Management is going to give hours to full time employees and ones that have been there longer, first.

There may be a performance issue, or it may be nothing but slow business which means they should cut hours for every one. He should ask the manager why his hours are getting reduced and if there's any thing he can do or improve on to get more hours.

Sounds like they want him to quit. It's easier for them if an employee quits voluntarily than it is to fire him. Less paperwork, no unemployment office bureaucrats to deal with, etc..
