Is it reasonable to expect Apple stocks to continue to rise at the same pace indefinitely? Can't companies be healthy with modest growth?

You should never “expect” anything to happen in the stock market. The market does what it wants to do and when it wants to do it.

Sure, some companies can be healthy with modest growth, but its all about those investors. The ones trying to get the biggest return on investment might start to back away if Apple isn't showing sustained growth, thus driving down the stock price.

When it comes to all things investing, one should always remember the phrase “past performance may not be indicative of future results”. So, no, it is not reasonable to expect anything to continue indefinitely.
