Do I need to file tax return?

I worked for 4 months in 2018 and it says I have 1,844.76 in wages, tips, etc.. I haven't been able to keep that job steady since I've been moving around different states. Can I still do tax returns? Some people say you can't file for tax return if you made less than 5000. So if I don't have "enough" to file for taxes , where's that money going to go ? I checked out some websites from lawyers and they say it doesn't matter how much you got paid you can still file for tax returns . I need my tax returns even if I get like 100.. please help!

A tax RETURN is a set of forms you fill out and file. You CAN file, and if you made enough, you MUST. Taxes are something you PAY, not something you file FOR and money you GET. When you get paid, your employer keeps some of your pay back and sends it to the government as payment toward what you owe for the year, If they took out too much, you get a reFUND of any extra. You can file, but that doesn't mean you'd GET ANYthing. It's possible to owe some more.

Yes. You have income. You should be receiving a W-2. File.

Stop listening to people and start reading IRS instructions for yourself. The answers will be found in the instructions. ANYONE can file. There is no minimum income for filing. However, it's pointless to file if you aren'r required to. You aren't required to if you had no self-employment income, just W-2 wages and you earned $12,000 or less. That's you. You do not need any tax returns. tax 'I need my tax returns even if I get like 100.' No, that's a TAX REFUND, not a RETURN. Returns are what you SEND IN.. If there was any federal income tax withheld from your pay - look in Box 2 on the W-2 - you HAVE to file if you want that money refunded to you. THAT will be your REFUND...but only if you file a RETURN to claim it.

If you had taxes withheld, you will need to file a tax return in order to get the money that was withheld back, as a refund. Don't listen to these people; they are stupid. Go to "source" below, on the IRS website, and answer the questions.

If you have paid income tax and, averaged over the course of the year, you have paid too much, you file a tax return to clam a refund. If you haven't paid any tax and your income is below the threshold for paying tax then you do not need to file a return because you have paid no tax to be refunded and you don't owe any tax.

EVERYONE can legally file a tax return. Either you are legally REQUIRED to file a return, or you are due a refund of 100% of whatever was withheld and can only claim it by filing.

And if there is nothing in box 2, how old were you? If 25 or older, see the rules for EIC.
