When you look at your W2, your FWT is in box 2. You have to fill out your tax return Form 1040 to find out how much you will get back or owe. If all you have is W2 income, the form is very simple to fill out and there are free sites to file on. You may have to file a state return as well. You can find the free sites at www.irs.gov

It is the amount of tax withheld from your pay to cover estimated tax liability based on your pay. You have to do your tax return to find out if you get anything back.

Federal tax withheld is in Box 2. The amount of money that you will get back is not shown anywhere on the paper. It has to be calculated. You can do the math yourself using Form 1040 or you can pay someone to do it for you.

"federal income tax withheld" is money you earned. Your employer withheld it from you and sent it to the US treasury as a "down payment" on your taxes. You file an income tax return to calculate how much total federal income tax you owe. The money withheld is applied to that, If there is leftover money, you get a refund. If the amount withheld is not enough to pay your tax bill, you have to pay the difference.

money withheld for federal income tax is in box 2. You're w-2 doesn't show what your refund will be. If you get one, that's calculated on the 1040 form you fill out.
