Because my five year old Proline 21 equipped aircraft has two independent ones. Of course, this is totally necessary because otherwise it would have no way to reference itself to the magnetic tracks generated by the GPS...

If you actually owned a REAL airplane, you'd know that GPS does not generate "magnetic tracks". GO AWAY LITTLE TROLL! Your mommy is calling you!
