It also depends on what type of enclosure and vehicle it’s going inside of. It’s much louder inside a hatchback, an Escalade, or a Tahoe. If you’re going to put it in a sedan or a coupe, roll down the back end of the rear seats. The woofers will have more room to produce more output.

Either should perform well if a proper enclosure is built as opposed to picking up a pre-made box. I’d personally go with ported 10’s tuned to 32 hz. I went with two Skar VVX 10s ported @32hz, and deep bass songs (Jeezy, Drake, Ludacris) hit high and low notes with absolute authority(“Get Back” by Ludacris, wow factor). I had a JL 10 sealed, and the deeper notes were a much more subdued. It comes down to what you want from your system and music preferences, as well as how much space you have available and how much you’ll spare with what you have : SQ and tight space go sealed, if you have the space and can spare 3-4 cubic feet, for more output with authoritative deep bass go ported- tuned properly of course. You should go to a few stereo shops near you and sample as much as you can, your ears are the best judges in the end.

A better question would be , "How to make each of those speakers perform optimally with the rest of the system being used?" To take one speaker and push it to it's extreme limits is just too one dimensional to describe music. Other wise you might as well be just shooting a cannon in the back seat. Listen to each of these on display in a stereo shop to see what they sound like. That can tell you better than any graph or argument. Cabinet design can emphasize certain frequency ranges that your system needs.

The 12's will get a couple db's louder and need a larger box. Those are the only obvious differences.
