2012 Nissan Murano power steering groaning noise when turning wheel all the way left or right after weather extreme temps ?

We had extreme cold weather in a Chicago of around -20–25 f for a few days and I didn’t drive the car. Today when I drove it I noticed a groaning or rubbing noise when turning wheel all the way left or right till wheel stops. This happens driving or idling. When idling when I rev up the engine noise seems to disappear. Could this be weather related ? It got warmer today and I was told at Jiffy line that something could have got in there. I check fluid level and it is ok. Any ideas ? Thanks

It might be time to flush the steering fluid. It has likely lost its viscosity.

Never go to a Jiffy Lube. They've been known to charge for services and just wipe the motor off to make it look like they worked on it. I used to work on Infiniti's at the dealer and we had problems with the PS high pressure lines developing restrictions in it which causes a groan. The next thing that happens is you get stiff spots when turning the steering wheel..

A groaning sound when you turn the wheel fully left or fully right and put pressure on the pump is normal. But, just in case I would recommend you change the PS fluid and also clean the filter which, if equipped, will be in the bottom of the pump. Use a turkey baster to pull as much fluid out as you can. Then fill the resivoir back up. Start the engine and drive it for a day or so. Repeat the process 2 more times and you will remove most of the dirty fluid. If the groaning persists and you hear it when the wheel is not fully turned and under pressure then possibly the pump is failing.
