Can fuel in the oil damage the engine?

Yes it can.

Yup. A little isn't the worst thing in the world, but if there is any significant amount, say goodbye to your bearings and cylinder walls.

well, yeah i'm sure it could

When motor oil accidentally mixes with petrol fuel, damage to the motor can result from poor lubrication from contaminated oil

Absolutely. Gasoline will reak down oil and dry out moving components.

Depends how much and if it enters continuously. Fuel will quickly evaporate off hot oil so normally no problem results. If the oil is constantly diluted with gas, not so much with diesel, then it will increase engine wear significantly.

Fuel in the oil is a SYMPTOM of damage, not normally a cause. I don't know who gave the thumbs down. I do know that if all the seals are intact, the only way for gas to get into the oil is if you pour it in.
