Towing a 2005 GMC Envoy with a 2005 BMW 530i?

Obviously it makes more sense to tow the BMW with the GMC, but the BMW drives much better than the GMC. Looking at the towing capacity and curb weight, the BMW has a 4009 lbs towing capacity and the curb weight of the GMC is 4,417 lbs, so it is slightly heavier than the recommended. Would it be possible to tow the GMC with the BMW 2500 miles with an auto transport? Your input is highly appreciated! Thank you!

When you're looking at towing another vehicle on a transporter trailer, you have to include the weight of the trailer too! A typical U-Haul transporter trailer can weigh nearly 2000 lbs empty.

no you get a car carrier and tow the BMW behind the GMC. if you were going to try and tow that GMC behind the BMW you'll certainly take the transmission out on the BMW costing around 5 grand especially if its a all wheel drive BMW

I don't think it's a good idea.

Use the vehicle with the HIGHER towing capacity.

Towing a perfectly operational truck with a car? That is laughable and impracticable at the same time. I tried this with a GM 4.3L, thus I had to drop the car off the dolly in the mountains and the wife drove it. There is no way you can go 2.5K mi and avoid mountain driving, you better think this through a bit more.

Thanks for posting. It has reminded me how lucky I am to not be an idiot.

no it would be illegal to tow a heavier vehicle without brake controls anyway why would you put that sort of strain on a car

Jabberwocky

Not really a good idea.

if its a car its not set up to tow that kind of load .. if its not actually destroyed by the time you get there, it will have had a large chunk of its life worn away for sure lol ...

Hi so given that most american car engines are 2-3 times the capacity of any BMW. what you suggest makes no sense.

If there are no mountains along the way and I was not in a hurry I would do it.
