Why won t my PS3 work with HDMI to AV converter?
I recently got a big box TV for free. Realized it had no HDMI inputs, so I got an HDMI to AV component converter. When I plug my Apple TV in, it works fine. But, when I used it for my PS3, I got nothing.
Could it be related to the HDCP? I doubt it s the output setting since the system is going out through HDMI.

Your PS3 may be set to a specific resolution and not set to auto-detect. So it's trying to output at 720p or 1080p instead of 480i. You may have to connect it to a newer TV first to set this resolution, then move it to the older TV. But PS3 games at 480i resolution are going to look awful and likely have text that is unreadable as they were designed to be seen on a 720p display.
