what you probably tasted was "old" which isn't dangerous, just nasty. Spoiled or old food rarely makes anyone sick and is far different than actual food borne bacteria.

Its always a good idea to look at and smell it to see if its still Ok. However, when in doubt, throw it out!

Probably not, but I got sick to the point of an ER visit last year when I bought a bottle of McCormick Lemon Dill fish sauce that was a year expired. I didn't notice it when I bought it. But I used a lot of it. That said, I frequently eat things, even mayo, that are well past their expiration date.
