Why did they retire the thimble in monopoly?

They had a vote I believe. Which one to get rid of and a choice of new counters/thingys to pick from.

There was an online vote for ALL tokens to be included (out of a field of 64 tokens, including the classics & even included emoji) in the standard set of Monopoly in 2017. The Iron was retired in 2013 (years before the vote), replaced by the Cat token The Thimble, Boot & Wheelbarrow were retired in 2017 after the vote (as they didn't make it into the Top 8), replaced by the Rubber Ducky, T-Rex & Penguin tokens (these tokens have a golden color verses the classic token's silver).

Because it didn't hurt enough when you stepped on it with bare feet.
