What does someone actually feel when they say that they "feel hungry"?

Have you never, ever felt hungry before? There's true, genuine hunger... and then there's the feeling of wanting to eat. True genuine hunger could best be described as a weakening feeling of emptiness. Sometimes there are painful stomach pangs. After a while of prolonged hunger/starvation... the body no longer "feels" "hungry" -- but it's still in desperate need of food.
