My backpack vacuum was accidentally used on wet carpet but it still works like it should. Is it okay or should I replace it just to be safe?

I lended my backpack vacuum cleaner to my friend who said he accidentally used it on wet carpet when it's for dry use only, he mentioned that it smelled like a weird burning smell right after water got suctioned up into it. I gave it a day to dry and it seems to be working totally fine now, is it likely ok to keep using or should I get a new vacuum cleaner just to be safe? The thing is I'd rather not replace it as it was $600.

Carry on using it. I'd change the bag & filter in case they got damp.

keep using it. it's probably ok if the water hoovered up was only for a few seconds -- after all, you've let it dry out
