I notice that some UK police officers now wear the rainbow (gay) badge on their uniforms.?
Is this because they are gay or just that they are expressing support for gays?

It could be either. Or just to look friendly.

The problem with colors in this context is the same color is OFTEN claimed by multiple unrelated groups. For all I know, they are wearing the insignia to signify support for an individual officer that has cancer.
