You supposedly capture a piece of a person's soul at that moment in time if you take their picture. They are frozen IN TIME, for eternity, not literally frozen. Freezing a picture keeps it from deteriorating as quickly.

Well, if I'm understanding your question as you intended. Back in the old country when I was a child, the elders believed if they were photographed, their soul would be trapped in the picture for eternally.
