Can TV personalities promote their own merchandise on Australian TV?

That is a big no-no in the UK. I was just watching Stephen Colbert, who is an American talk show host, and he shamelessly plugged his own book on his show. Advertising laws in the UK are quite strict. You can invite guests onto a talk show to sell their product but it is strictly forbidden to mention your own, particularly if you work for the BBC. Are Australian TV chat show hosts allowed to profiteer off their audience?

On a commercial channel they probably can and I've heard ABC radio hosts plugging the books of other ABC radio hosts and journalists. You'd probably find their products are sold through ABC shops so that sort of backdoor marketing is ok by the ABC charter.

Wally's not a Wally.

Obviously the UK is a backward country. How is Theresa and Brexit going?
