Travelling alone to Santo Domingo (DR) is it safe?

So I’m planning a trip to Santo Domingo for a week or two, I’m going to be staying at a cheap Airbnb and I plan on exploring the city and doing multiple activities like atv riding, snorkelling and visiting some islands. On the other hand I want to party there too. I don’t think I’ll be renting a car. Now I read some reviews on travelling there and I’m quite concerned. Based on the above paragraph, do you think I’ll have any problems. I’m a 6’2 black male and I’m 21 years old. I obviously won’t be walking around at night with my phone out or a backpack and I will be wary at all times.

I read some reviews on travelling there and I’m quite concerned. Good for you. Read some more there are nice ones too. Some are honest and some are not. Based on the above paragraph, do you think I’ll have any problems. Based on your information provided YOU will have problems travelling ANYWHERE. I’m a 6’2 black male. Is that to indicate you are tall and fluent in Chinese? I obviously won’t be walking around at night with my phone out . So what is it you plan to do after the sun goes down. ? Hide in your room? or a backpack A small bag on your back to carry things a water bottle , guide book, some snacks for your days adventure, a place to stuff your souvenir purchases is not a bad thing. Leaves your hands free. I will be wary at all times. Good for you. Wary about what? Pick pockets? Some person trying to convince you they have this special someone that wants to do something for you? if the ice in your drink is contaminated? If someone has spiked your drink? I don’t think I’ll be renting a car. Being 21 it is not cheap. Is anyplace Guaranteed crime free? NO Avoid wearing items of value or carrying an item that could make you an attractive target. Be wary of strangers, especially those who approach you at celebrations or nightspots. Can you run into trouble? YES Will you? Probably not. : Swimming areas at some popular beaches around the Dominican Republic are subject to dangerous undertows. Many beaches lack life guards, warnings, or signs of unsafe conditions. Check with your hotel, as resort managers usually offer current information on local swimming and surf conditions. Do not swim alone, particularly at isolated beaches. https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/students-abroad/pdfs/Springbreak-v1.pdf

Stick to touristy areas and you’ll be fine. Go partying at places where there’s other tourists. Don’t wonder off and do anything alone. Doing your excursions should be fine. I’m not saything the Dominican republican isn’t safe, this goes for any country you’re traveling too. Even when I go visit my family in South America I try not to go alone anywhere that doesn’t have other tourists or lots of people.
