There is an earthquake exhibit in San Francisco. Go there and after that visit a few stereo shops.

Different earthquakes, in different places, with different geology, in building of different construction types, feel, ummm, different. Sway, shake, vibrate, nothing, boom, jarring, … I've been in earthquakes in 4 different states.
