I did a 19 day circle trek in the Annapurna region in 1986 that began and ended in Pokara. The trek was mostly over rocks along trails used to get to villages. There were 20 of us and we had porters and sherpas guiding us. When we got to the villages the people living in the villages knew some of the English language and invited us into their homes for a cultural exchange of ideas. The villagers wanted to learn more of the English language and engaged in conversation and asked questions so they could not only practice their language skills, but exchange ideas about their culture and the culture of the U.S.A. This was a trip of a lifetime and I recall it as though it was yesterday. We trekked through rain forests, over rope bridges crossing rivers, and saw the high peaks of the Annapurna range in the distance. The beauty of Nepal is hard to put into words, one must experience it first hand to completely understand how beautiful the natural flora and fauna is to behold. I recommend a trek to Nepal to the young and hearty who have the will and strength of character and body to trek among the beautiful people of Nepal. I did the trek and it is as you say, a unique experience and a memorable collection of culture and natural beauty. Thank you for writing this.
