What are some very strict rules for being tardy to school?

This will depend greatly on the country, locality, and school. I have heard if more than 30 minutes late, the child is sent home. I have heard after a certain time, the child spends all day or until lunch in detention.

There's a private school in my city that imposes a $100 fine upon a family if the child is more than 1/2 hour late without the school having been notified that they'd be tardy. What strikes me as really odd about that is that it's a private school. So basically the parent is paying for their child to attend a school that will further fine them.
