I have to have time off work to handle some personal things but they won't work with me. What should I do?

I need some time off to file some paperwork with my insurance, handle some medical things, and take my girlfriend to get her license as she has never had one. I work Monday through Friday, the places are not open on my regular off time and it all must be done in person. My work hasn't been able to let me off. Last week they said I could, and they ended up letting me off late in the afternoon. I had to speed to get to the first place on my list and by the time I got there, it was too late and they were closing. What should I do?

Insurance paperwork - what kind of insurance paperwork needs to be done in person? or doing regular business hours? - send it snail mail, drop it through the mail slot, handle it via email, work with your agent for after hours services, schedule an after hours notary Medical issue - if you need to go to a medical appointment, you ask your company when you can go and then schedule an appointment for that time. Most employers like you to make it first thing in the morning so you come in late instead of leave early. Girlfriends license - you are an adult, you don't take off work to get your girlfriend's drivers license. She figures out another way to get there.

From the way you type you sound a bit sick to me (wink wink).

They don't have to give you time off. Talk to your insurance agent about other options. Your gf needs to rind someone else to take her to get her license. Re the "medical things", you're so vague it's impossible to suggest anything

call in sick.

Can your GF take an Uber or Lyft?

Not much you can do...your employer has the right to schedule where and when they need you. If you accrue vacation or personal time, put in for a day off using this time and see what they say. Your alternative, of course, is to lie and call in sick (which will look suspicious since you have been asking for time off and obviously, if medical things are doctor's appointments you would not be lying), Try breaking everything up - for example, do the insurance stuff on one day (see if you can get time off in the morning - it shouldn't take that long to file paperwork). Then see if you can get your medical stuff scheduled all in one day and use sick leave (or call in sick). And since you are kind of pushing the envelope doing all this, you may have to let your girlfriend make her own arrangements for the driver's license (she is an adult after all). Or, you can just quit which will leave you plenty of time. This is what being an adult is all about.

Sickness and Diarrhoa always worked with my staff. I could never prove it was fake.
