Why won't car crank in this position?

I have a 19 year old car that cranks well when on even ground or if front end is facing uphill. However, in a parking lot where the car faces down hill, it sputters and hesitates to start. What could be the issue?

possibly the fuel pump and or fuel filter

The pickup in the fuel tank is near the rear of the tank. When the vehicle is angled downhill. The fuel moves away from the pickup. That makes getting sufficient fuel to the engine more difficult, especially if the fuel level is low.

Think about it. What doesn't flow uphill? Something that is critical for starting and running the engine, obviously. When you catch on, start troubleshooting the components of that system.

Troubleshoot. Get the battery charged and load tested. Replace battery if it fails the load test. Replace the battery terminals. Try to start. No fix, get a test light and check power at both terminals of the starter solenoid and check for starter ground while cranking when car is facing downhill.
