Is there a way to make my laptop shut down immediately instead of taking forever?

When I turn off my laptop it says "Shutting down" for over a minute which is annoying cause I have to stay until it shuts off. Is there a way to make it shut down immediately so I don't have to wait?

Enter the following command on a command line shutdown /s /t 10 10 stands for the number of seconds to wait for the computer to shutdown. To see all the possible parameters: just enter the shutdown command.

Use a different operating system like Linux. That has rapid shut off.

Boris 24: Method 1

Method 1: Power troubleshooter The Power troubleshooter checks things like your computer's timeout settings, which determine how long the computer waits before turning off the monitor display or entering sleep mode. Adjusting these settings can help you conserve power and extend your computer's battery life. 1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar and open it. 2. Click on "view all" on the left pane. 3. Run the "power" troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions. Method 2: Disable Fast Startup 1. Press Windows key + R 2. Type powercfg.cpl and press enter 3. Click on "choose what the power buttons does" on the left pane. 4. Click on "change settings that are currently unavailable" 5. Uncheck "turn on fast startup" 6. Click "save changes" If you have any external devices connected to the system, I would suggest you to temporarily disconnect them and check if the issue persists. As an alternative, you also have the option to create a shutdown shortcut in the desktop which will immediately shutdown the system. Try the steps given below and check if it reduces the speed of shutting down the system. 1. Go to your desktop (Windows key + D) 2. Right click and select New 3. Select Shortcut. (When you click the Shortcut menu item, you will arrive at the input screen. This is where you will enter the specific command strings to make your new shortcut do what you want it to do.) 4.Type Shutdown.exe -s -t 00 In-order to give these shortcuts an icon that will help you remember what it is that they do, you can click on browse 5. The next screen will show you a list of potential icons. Choose the one you want to use and click the OK button twice You should now have a new shortcut on your desktop. When you click the shortcut, your PC will shut down, so make sure you save your work before you test it.

Close all your items on the computer which you have opened first, before shutting it down helps reduce the time.

Hold in the power button for five seconds instead of pressing it.

Why are you shutting down your laptop. Just close the lid so it hibernates or sleeps. Additional information: It is not better to turn off the computer. The more you power on & off your machine the more overall stress the machine has and more likely for a random glitch may occur. - Most large employees have policies where laptops and desktops ARE NOT turned off on a daily basis.
