Why do libraries need volunteers?

Why do libraries need volunteers if there are already librarians there that are getting paid?

Libraries get very little public funding. The staff who are paid don't have time to do everything that's needed to keep the libraries operating at their best. Volunteers really enjoy helping out in order to keep libraries in our communities.

Librarians often have college degrees - Library Science, for example. Books and dvds need to be placed back on the shelves after being returned. You don't need to pay a librarian's salary to someone for that.
